The Masterworked Rating, explained

Every Guardian on Masterworked.GG gets a rating a mode, a division for it and a rank among the players we track. This is how each of those is worked out, and what they are not.

On this page

What the Masterworked Rating is

A rating for each of four modes: raids, dungeons, Trials of Osiris and Grandmasters. In raids and dungeons it scores the best you have done in each activity, so a flawless run, a small fireteam or a fast full clear counts for more than another hundred clears. It has no ceiling: every new raid or dungeon adds its own points. You see it on any Guardian’s player page, in the Masterworked Rating panel, and on the leaderboards.

Raids and dungeons

Each raid and each dungeon is scored on its own, then the scores are added up: one rating for raids, one for dungeons.

In each activity you earn points for the best you have done there. Doing something again earns nothing more, except clears, which keep adding a little until 100.

A full clear
100 · Only a clear from a checkpoint: 40
A harder version
40 · Master, Prestige, Epic or Contest
Flawless
60 · A full clear with no fireteam deaths
The smallest fireteam
up to 100 · Solo 100, duo 70, trio 40 (raids only: a dungeon's fireteam is three)
Speed
up to 100 · Your fastest full clear against every Guardian's: 100 for the fastest, 50 for the middle
Clears
up to 40 · Grows with every clear and levels off at 100 clears

One activity is worth up to 440 points. The speed points compare your fastest full clear with the fastest full clear of every Guardian who has one in that activity, so they move when others get faster too. Every raid and dungeon counts, including those no longer in the game. The Pantheon and the featured raid encounters are left out; they have their own leaderboards.

Trials and Grandmasters

Trials of Osiris

From your lifetime Trials figures: 1,000 + 500 × (K/D − 1) + 600 × (win rate − 0.5) + 25 × √flawless passages + 4 × √matches. The K/D and win rate are steadied before they count: the K/D as if you had 50 more kills and 50 more deaths, the win rate as if you had 50 more matches won half the time. A great weekend over a few matches moves it a little; the same over hundreds of matches moves it a lot. The K/D term is held between −0.8 and +1.6 and the win-rate term between −0.5 and +0.5.

Grandmasters

From your Grandmasters, the weekly Grandmaster Vanguard Alerts and the old Grandmaster Nightfalls: 800 + 50 × √Grandmaster clears + 25 × strikes, where strikes is how many different strikes you have cleared at that difficulty.

The divisions

A rating falls into one of seven divisions. Six carry a numeral; the seventh is Masterworked.

Raids and dungeons: by rank

A raid or dungeon rating’s division follows your rank among every Guardian with a rating in that family, so the top division always means the very top.

Trials and Grandmasters: by rating

We don’t track every Trials or Grandmaster player, so these divisions follow fixed lines.

Masterworked
2,600 and up
Division VI
2,200 to 2,599
Division V
1,850 to 2,199
Division IV
1,550 to 1,849
Division III
1,250 to 1,549
Division II
950 to 1,249
Division I
0 to 949

The mark beside a rating is its division: the engram lights up a face at a time, is gold from Division V, wears the masterworked ring at VI and a crown at Masterworked. The bar under a mode shows how far you are through your division.

The overall rating

The overall is where your rated modes stand on average, 1,000 points a division: Division I is 0 to 999, Masterworked 6,000 and up, and the bar shows the way through. A Guardian in Division V for raids (halfway through it) and Division III for dungeons (at its start) stands at 4.5 and 2, so the overall is 3,250, Division IV. A mode you have never played is left out, never counted as zero. The overall shows how many modes it rests on, as in “Division IV · 2 of 4 modes”.

The rank line

Under a raid or dungeon rating the rank line says where you stand among every Guardian with a rating there, as “#1,204 of 3,527,156 · top 0.03%”. Trials and Grandmasters rate the lifetime figures, so they carry no rank. On the Raids and Dungeons tabs a figure’s tile is outlined in gold when you stand in that board’s top 1,000 (clears, full clears, fastest full clear, flawless and small-team clears), in ivory in its top 100, with your place on it.

Unrated, and why

A mode you have not played has no rating and shows Unrated with its own grey mark, never Division I. Raids and dungeons are rated from the runs we have stored for you, so they stay Unrated until your first clear is stored; Trials and Grandmasters are rated from the first match or completion.

A profile set to private on Bungie.net shows its name and nothing else, so it has no ratings at all.

Where the figures come from

  • Raid and dungeon ratings come from the runs we store: clears, full clears, harder versions, flawless and small-fireteam clears and fastest times. A run is stored once we have seen its report; a Guardian’s older runs are stored when their profile is first indexed, and the page says how many runs are stored and when they were last updated. The ratings and ranks are rebuilt every day.
  • Trials and Grandmaster figures are Bungie’s own lifetime statistics for your account, read live when you open a page.
  • Runs from Beyond Light to The Witch Queen carry no start marker in Bungie’s reports, so they count as clears but never as full clears, flawless runs or fastest times. Bungie’s own “fastest” time is never used, because it counts checkpoint joins.

What it is not

It is not Bungie’s. The game has no such rating, and nothing here changes anything in the game. It is also not a head-to-head rating: raids and dungeons have no opponent, so you never lose points because someone else won. It measures what you have done, built so that how well you did (harder versions, flawless runs, small fireteams and speed) counts for more than how often.
