Privacy policy

This policy covers how Masterworked.GG (“we”, “the site”) collects, uses and protects information about the people who use it. It’s short on purpose. If something’s unclear, ask us.

Personal identification information

You can use the whole site without telling us who you are. We collect personal information only when you choose to sign in with Bungie or write something on the site. Signing in gives us your Bungie Name and the platforms your Destiny 2 account is on. Commenting, rating, or publishing a tier list or build attaches that name to what you wrote. We never ask for your email address, your password or any payment details.

Non-personal identification information

Like any website, we see technical details when your browser asks for a page: your IP address, browser and device type, operating system and the page you asked for. We use them to serve the page, keep the site working and stop abuse. Server logs are kept for 30 days with the IP address shortened, so they don’t identify you.

Web browser cookies

The site uses cookies. One keeps you signed in after you sign in with Bungie, and a short-lived one protects the sign-in itself; both are necessary and are only sent to this site. Our hosting and security provider may set a cookie to tell real visitors from automated traffic. Google sets its own cookies for analytics and ads, described below. Your browser can refuse cookies or warn you about them, but parts of the site (signing in, for one) won’t work without the necessary ones.

We also keep a few conveniences in your browser’s local storage: your settings for the inventory and progress pages, recent pages, and searches you saved while signed out. They stay on your device.

How we use collected information

  • To run the site: show you your gear, keep you signed in, and show your comments, ratings, lists and builds under your name.
  • To improve it: see which pages are used, find faults and fix them.
  • To keep it safe: limit how many requests one visitor can send, and stop abuse.
  • To count: community figures (how many players own an item, how a weapon is rated) are shown only as totals and never name anyone.

Signing in with Bungie

Signing in goes through Bungie’s own sign-in page, so we never see your password. Bungie gives us a token to read your account’s game data; we store it encrypted and never send it to your browser, apart from a short-lived copy your browser uses to read your inventory and progress from Bungie. The site changes your game only when you ask it to: moving, equipping or locking an item, or pulling one from the postmaster. You can sign out at any time and revoke the app in your Bungie.net settings.

Public player pages

Player pages show what Bungie makes public about a Bungie account: name, characters, stats and recent matches. We keep a copy so pages load quickly. A copy nobody has opened for 90 days is deleted, and a profile that’s set to private on Bungie.net, or whose owner has opted out, is removed within minutes. We never work around Bungie’s privacy settings. If you’d rather not appear here at all, ask us (see Contacting us) and we’ll remove your page and stop indexing you.

How we protect your information

We use appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal information and the data stored on the site. Sign-in tokens are encrypted at rest, cookies are secure and unreadable by scripts, and backups are encrypted.

Sharing your personal information

We do not sell, trade or rent your personal information to anyone. Aggregated figures that identify nobody (how many players own an item, how a weapon is rated) are shown on the site. The companies that host the site and deliver its ads and analytics receive what they need to do that job, under their own policies, and nothing more.

What your browser fetches itself

Player searches, player pages, match reports, your inventory and your progress are read by your browser straight from Bungie, and the item moves you ask for go to Bungie the same way, so Bungie sees your IP address and what you look up, under Bungie’s own privacy policy. Importing a loadout from a DIM link fetches it from DIM’s servers in the same way.

Third-party websites

The site links to other sites: Bungie.net, the community projects we credit, and advertisers. We don’t control them, and their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.

Advertising

Ads on the site are served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, measure them and, where you allow it, personalise them based on your visits to this and other sites. We don’t control those cookies. Google’s advertising policy explains them. You can turn personalised ads off in My Ad Center, and opt out of other networks at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: which pages are opened, on what kind of device, and roughly from where. It doesn’t see your account or the things you save. How Google uses information from sites that use its services explains the rest, and you can block it with Google’s opt-out add-on.

Advertising privacy settings

If you’re in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, a consent message asks before any cookies for ads or analytics are set, and you can change your answer at any time through the “Privacy and cookie settings” link on the page. In US states with privacy laws, the same message offers “Do not sell or share my personal information”, and Google honours your browser’s Global Privacy Control signal where the law requires it.

Your data and choices

Signed in, the Account page shows everything we keep for you and lets you export it as one file or delete it. Deleting it removes your tags, notes, loadouts, comments, ratings and lists. You can sign out and revoke the app on Bungie.net at any time, make your Bungie.net profile private to keep it off player pages, or ask us to opt you out of player pages and match history entirely.

Changes to this privacy policy

When we change this policy, the date at the top changes with it. Checking back now and then is on you, and using the site after a change means you’re fine with it.

Your acceptance of these terms

By using Masterworked.GG you accept this policy. If you don’t agree with it, please don’t use the site.
